Winter Meeting Announcement

There is nothing more deceptive than an obvious fact.”
— Sherlock Holmes in “The Boscombe Valley Mystery”

We mean no deception to start off the New Year, just the obvious fact that soon, it will be time for the winter meeting of The Amateur Mendicant Society of Detroit, to which you are most cordially invited.

Saturday, January 31, 2009 at 7 p.m.
The British Commonwealth Club, 30088 Dequindre Rd., Warren
(between 12 & 13 Mile Roads)
Club phone: (586) 751-9560

Our brief Canonical discussion will concern “The Boscombe Valley Mystery” in which Holmes, Watson and Inspector Lestrade investigate possible patricide in the countryside involving one Charlie McCarthy, though he’s no dummy.

The meeting, which celebrates Holmes’ 155th birthday, will also feature the usual toasts, a prize drawing and other merriment.

As part of the evening, there will be a learned presentation about The Original Musgrave Mystery – one that predates that famous family’s “ritual – which two Mendicants uncovered while hiking in England.

We look forward to seeing you on January 31. Libations begin at 6:30 p.m. with a hearty dinner at 7 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,
Robert Musial, Tantalus
